From all the sugar-free cereal options I’ve tried, this remains my top choice. It has a great balance in terms of flavor, nutrition and price.

The Cereal School – Keto Cereal With Very Little Carbs

To tell you the truth, when I first found the Cereal School, it seemed to be too good to be true. With only 1g of carbs per serving this lowest carb cereal has become my favorite, hands down.

Each serving is very low in carbohydrates however has enough protein to cover the amount you get from a protein bar – 16g. The only downside to Cereal School – the price is a little higher compared to your average low carb cereal.

These premium and keto friendly ingredients include: Lactose-free milk protein isolate, high-oleic sunflower oil, natural flavor, tapioca fiber, monk fruit.

The Cereal School cereal come in two flavors: fruity and cinnamon bun. My favorite is the cinnamon bun but I definitely recommend ordering the variety pack – this way you’ll get to try both flavors in one order.

DIY: Low Carb Cereal Recipes

If store-bought cereal is not an option for you – you can always make some keto friendly cereal yourself. Below you will find some of my favorite cereal recipes that are a perfect low carb breakfast option on a cold or a hot day.

Low Carb Cereal For a Hot Day

If you’re having a hot day outside – most likely you’ll want your low carb cereal served cold. Here are some of my favorite cereal recipes that you can eat every morning.

Home-made muesli

Home-Made Granola

It may sound tricky, but actually making home-made granola is very easy. The only downside to it, is that it will require quite a few ingredients. Below you will find my favorite granola recipe and the method I use to prepare it. You can eat it alone as a keto snack or mix it with milk of your choice. Both ways it’s completely delicious.

Ingredients (5 servings):

  • 1/4 cup  roughly chopped  cashews
  • 1/4 cup  roughly chopped  almonds
  • 1/4 cup roughly chopped macadamia nuts
  • 1/4 cup finely sliced almonds
  • 1/6 cup of pumpkin seeds 
  • 1/6 cup of sunflower
  • 1/8 cup ground golden flax seed meal 
  • 1/8 cup unsweetened dried cranberries
  • 1/8 cup low carb syrup
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter 
  • Salt and cinnamon to taste

Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees.
  2. In a medium sized bowl mix all of the ingredients together.
  3. Add some baking paper to your baking tray and distribute the mixture evenly.
  4. Bake for around 20 minutes or until it becomes slightly golden and fragrant.
  5. Remove from the oven and let it cool down. Carefully break the granola to desired size pieces.

As you can see, making granola at home is easy and doesn’t require a lot of time, only quite a few ingredients. Keep in mind that you can change and remove nuts or seeds from the recipe base on your preferences. Otherwise this granola is a perfect low carb cereal alternative.

Delicious Home-Made Muesli

When it comes to home-made low carb cereal, muesli is one of the most nutritious and easiest options to prepare. However, just like home made granola, it requires more ingredients that time. So here’s my favorite muesli recipe that I enjoy snacking on as well as eating for breakfast with a mixture of almond and coconut milk.

Ingredients (5 servings):

  • 1/3 cup flaked coconut (unsweetened)
  • 1/3 cup pumpkin seeds
  • 1/3 cup sliced almonds
  • 1/6 cup pecans
  • 1/3 cup cashews
  • 1/6 cup hemp seeds (shelled)
  • 2/3 teaspoons cinnamon
  • Favorite sweetener to taste

Toppings:

  • Raspberries
  • Blueberries
  • Strawberries
  • Heavy cream (unsweetened)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees.
  2. In a medium sized bowl mix all of the ingredients together.
  3. Add some baking paper to your baking tray and distribute the mixture evenly.
  4. Bake for around 8 minutes or until it becomes slightly golden and fragrant.
  5. Remove from the oven and let it cool down.
  6. Serve with desired toppings.

Once you’re done preparing your low carb muesli, you can eat it as a snack or pair it with almond or coconut milk. Be sure to top it with keto-friendly berries and some heavy cream. It’s a perfect breakfast choice when you have your keto cravings to deal with.

Low carb porridge

Almond Porridge with Keto Berries

This delicious almond porridge with keto friendly berries is a perfect breakfast choice for a cold morning. It’s easy to prepare and will keep you worm through the day. It’s one of my favorite keto cereal substitutes to make on winter.

Ingredients (2 servings):

  • 7 tbsp of almond flour
  • 4 tsp ground flax
  • 1.5 cups of water
  • 2 large eggs
  • 5 tsp coconut oil or butter
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream 
  • 1.5 ounces strawberries
  • 1.5 ounces raspberries
  • salt and sweetener to taste

Method:

  1. In a medium size pot mix the flour with flax and water.
  2. Put it on medium heat and boil until it starts thicken.
  3. Add the coconut oil/butter and heavy cream.
  4. Once the porridge thickens, remove it from heat.
  5. Beat the eggs and slowly pour them into the oatmeal.
  6. Mix everything well. The eggs should cook from the heat of the porridge, if needed put back on the heat for several seconds.
  7. Add sugar and chosen sweetener to your taste.

Once you have your porridge prepared, pour it into your bowl and decorate with strawberries and raspberries. As you know, they’re one of the most keto friendly berries out there.

TIP: if you want to give your porridge a holiday season twist – sprinkle some cinnamon into it – absolutely delicious.

Coconut Porridge with Blueberries

This is one of my top porridge choices if I want something sweet yet mostly carb-free for breakfast. Coconut and blueberries are a classic flavor combination so I recommend you to try it out. I prefer eating it on a cold day but you can enjoy it even during summer. It’s easy and effortless to prepare. However, it may just become the highlight of your day.

Ingredients (2 servings):

  • 1/4 cup coconut flour
  • 1 cup almond / coconut milk
  • 1/3 cup flax seed (grounded)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • Coconut oil or butter
  • Shredded coconut (optional)
  • Stevia and salt to taste
  • Blueberries

Instructions:

  1. In a medium size pot mix the flour with flax and chosen milk.
  2. Put the pot on medium heat and boil until it starts thicken.
  3. Add the coconut oil/butter.
  4. Once the porridge thickens, remove it from heat.
  5. Mix everything well. Season with cinnamon, stevia and salt. For me, using 8 drops of liquid stevia is the optimal amount.

Once you have your delicious coconut porridge prepared, pour it into a bowl of your choice and decorate with blueberries and shredded coconut. I am sure that you’ll absolutely love this porridge. It takes only 5-10 minutes to prepare but tastes like something served in a cafe.
